CNC MACHINING OF A BRAKE DRUM FOR THE COMMERCIAL VEHICLE IND

An automotive industry customer came to Madison Tool & Die, Inc. seeking precision CNC turning services to manufacture this cast iron brake drum. The drums were to be used in the brake systems of large commercial trucks. Fully equipped to handle such requests, we made use of our Daewoo Puma 550 twin spindle vertical machine center for the CNC machining of these 136 lb. gray cast iron parts. Subsequent operations were performed using a Doosan DMN 400 drill and a BTI balancing machine. Tolerances of ±0.001" were achieved for these 18" x 36" components. We also spray painted to customer spec's. We currently ship 15,000 parts per week (780,000/year), with two week turnaround to locations in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
